MAPPA Festival Tenerife: Luciano A·Z on 5 September

Malta's season is in its last fortnight. Gianpula is closing, the rooftops are winding down, and the question that always follows — where does the first weekend of September actually go? — has an answer this year that is not a club night at all. On Saturday 5 September, Tenerife runs MAPPA Festival on Avenida Siam: seven hours of electronic music, outdoors, from 17:00 to midnight.

Why this one is worth the flight

It is the third and final chapter of Trilogy, and the booking is the reason to care: Luciano headlines with an exclusive A·Z set — his own catalogue, start to finish, which is not something he does often and not something you get in a two-hour club slot.

Around him the bill is genuinely international: Hector Couto, HoneyLuv and Bassel Darwish. Opening the day are Alex Wellmann, Kevin Deep and Iva Dive, plus the winner of the festival's DJ contest, who gets the stage in front of the full crowd.

The format is the point

If you have spent August in Malta, this is the opposite shape of night. It starts at 17:00 while it is still light, runs outdoors under the Tenerife sky, and is done by midnight — which in the south of the island means the clubs are only just filling up when the festival empties. Papagayo, Mala Mía and Monkey Beach all run their own Saturday, so the festival is the first half of the night, not the whole of it.

• Tickets: three releases — €39, then €43, then €47, plus booking fee
